Overview

Age Verification from Elfsight puts an age gate in front of a Squarespace site or selected pages. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Elfsight's platform rather than native Squarespace code. In Elfsight's editor you set the minimum age, pick one of three checks (Yes and No buttons, full date of birth or year of birth), write the message and decide what happens to visitors who fail: block them, show a custom message or redirect them elsewhere. The gate can cover the whole page as an overlay with your logo, an image and a background that hides the content, and it can remember a visitor for a set number of days so they are not asked on every visit. Squarespace has nothing native for this.

Key features

  • Yes and No, date of birth or year of birth checks
  • Any minimum age threshold
  • Block, message or redirect scenarios for underage visitors
  • Remember visitors for a set number of days
  • Whole-site or selected-page coverage
  • Full overlay with logo, image and custom colours
  • Free plan with Elfsight branding and view limits

Who it suits

Breweries, distilleries, wine merchants, vape and tobacco sellers, and sites with adult-only content who need a visible age check and want to control its wording, look and behaviour without code.

Honest limits

This is a self-declaration gate, not identity verification. Anyone can click Yes or type an older birth year, and it runs in the browser, so it does not stop determined visitors or count as proof of age for regulated sales. Treat it as a reasonable-steps measure and check your own legal position. Because it is JavaScript from Elfsight's servers, content is still in the page source, free-tier widgets carry Elfsight branding and monthly view limits, and the gate goes if your account lapses.

Installation on Squarespace

Configure the gate in Elfsight's editor, copy the embed code and paste it into Squarespace footer code injection for site-wide cover, or into page header injection for individual pages. Later edits in the editor update automatically.

FAQs

FAQs

What does the Elfsight Age Verification widget do on a Squarespace site?
It shows an age gate before the page content, asking visitors to confirm their age with buttons or a date of birth, and blocks, messages or redirects those who fail the check.
Is this native Squarespace code?
No. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Elfsight's platform. You configure it in Elfsight's editor and paste an embed code into Squarespace code injection.
Does it verify identity?
No. It is a self-declaration check that runs in the visitor's browser. It does not check ID documents and should not be relied on as proof of age for regulated sales.
Will visitors see the gate on every page?
Only if you want them to. You can cover the whole site or just selected pages, and the widget can remember a visitor for a set number of days.
Does it store personal data?
Elfsight says the age input is evaluated in the browser and no user accounts or identity data are stored on its servers.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Elfsight offers a free plan for this widget. Free-tier widgets include Elfsight branding and monthly view limits, which paid subscriptions remove.
