Overview
Background images and videos on Squarespace page sections carry a frustrating limitation: there is nowhere to say what they are. No photographer credit, no location, no context, which matters legally when image licences require attribution and editorially when the image deserves explanation. Will Myers' Background Image Captions fixes it, displaying captions on your section background images and videos with a range of styles to choose from, so the caption sits in the design rather than fighting it. Installation is copy-and-paste with a video, the plugin is automatically maintained as Squarespace changes, and it costs $25 single site or $60 multi-use covering unlimited websites and templates for sale.

Yes, the plugin comes with a range of caption styles to choose between, from discreet corner credits to more present editorial captions.
Does it work on video backgrounds?
Yes, captions work on both background images and background videos in page sections.
Who typically needs this?
Photographers crediting their work, sites using licensed imagery whose terms require visible attribution, and publications where the background imagery is content deserving context.
How is it installed and maintained?
Copy-and-paste code with an installation video, and the plugin is automatically maintained to stay current with Squarespace changes. Support is best-effort for the first 60 days on universal technical issues.
How is it licensed?
$25 for a single website, or $60 for the multi-use license covering unlimited sites and Squarespace templates for sale.
