Overview

What it is

Clippy 2.0 from SQS Mods adds a floating menu to a Squarespace 7.1 site: a compact set of links that stays on screen as the visitor scrolls, giving them a way to jump to your shop, your contact form or a booking page without scrolling back to the header. The name is a nod to the old Microsoft Office paperclip, though this one only appears when you want it to.

What it does

The menu sits in a corner of the page behind a small icon (the plus symbol by default, or one of your own) and opens into a list of links. SQS Mods give you control over the colours and corner radius of the popup navigation, the font size and colours of the menu items, the width and height of the popup and of the icons, and a choice of hover effects. No coding knowledge is needed beyond following the instructions and pasting the code in.

Who it suits

Long-scrolling sites where the main navigation disappears off the top: online shops, portfolios with a lot of work on one page, and blogs where you want a persistent route to a newsletter signup or a key offer. It is a good fit for a one-page site that still needs a few clear calls to action.

One honest caveat

A floating element takes up permanent screen space, and on a phone that space is scarce. Keep the menu to a handful of links and test it against your cookie banner and any chat widget so they are not fighting over the same corner.

Setup

The plugin is supplied as code you add to your Squarespace 7.1 site following SQS Mods' instructions, then configured with your links and styling. Custom code normally requires a plan that allows code injection, so check your plan before buying.

FAQs

FAQs

What does Clippy 2.0 do?
It adds a floating menu to a Squarespace 7.1 site: a small icon that stays on screen as the visitor scrolls and opens into a short list of links to key pages.
Do I need coding knowledge to use it?
No. The plugin is supplied as code you paste into your site following SQS Mods' instructions, then configure with your links and styling.
What can I customise?
The colours and corner radius of the popup navigation, the font size and colours of the menu items, the width and height of the popup and its icons, the hover effect, and the icon used for the trigger.
Which Squarespace version does it support?
It is built for Squarespace 7.1. Because it uses custom code you will need a plan that allows code injection.
Will it get in the way on mobile?
It takes up a permanent corner of the screen, so keep the menu short and test it alongside any cookie banner or chat widget that uses the same corner.
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Removing the code you added restores the site to how it was before.
