Overview

Cookie Consent from Elfsight adds a cookie banner to a Squarespace site. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Elfsight's platform rather than native Squarespace code. In Elfsight's editor you choose between a notification-only banner and a consent request with Accept and Decline buttons, write the message, add a link to your privacy or cookie policy, and pick a Bar layout (top or bottom) or a Box layout (left, right or centre). Colours, font size and an optional cookie icon match it to your site, and Elfsight supplies GDPR-styled templates. A visitor's choice is stored in their browser, so the banner does not reappear on every visit.

Who it suits

Site owners who want more control over the wording, position and look of the banner than Squarespace's built-in cookie tools allow, or who need the same banner design across several platforms. A free plan is available to start with.

One honest caveat

Squarespace already has a free cookie banner under Settings, Cookies and Visitor Data, and it ties into Squarespace's own analytics cookies. Elfsight's page describes a notice with consent buttons; it does not describe blocking third-party scripts until consent is given, so if you need genuine prior-consent blocking for a regulated audience, confirm that with Elfsight and your legal adviser before relying on it. Free-tier widgets carry Elfsight branding and view limits, and the banner disappears if your account lapses.

Installation

Build the banner in Elfsight's editor, copy the embed code and paste it into Squarespace footer code injection so it appears on every page. Later edits in the editor update automatically.

FAQs

FAQs

What does the Elfsight Cookie Consent widget do on a Squarespace site?
It shows a cookie banner with your message, a link to your policy and either a single acknowledgement button or Accept and Decline buttons, in a bar or box layout.
Is this native Squarespace code?
No. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Elfsight's platform. You configure it in Elfsight's editor and paste an embed code into Squarespace footer code injection.
Does Squarespace not have its own cookie banner?
It does, under Settings, Cookies and Visitor Data, and it is free. Elfsight's widget offers more layout, colour and wording control, which is the main reason to use it instead.
Does the banner remember a visitor's choice?
Yes. Once a visitor clicks Accept or Decline, the choice is stored in their browser and the banner does not reappear until that stored choice expires.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Elfsight offers a free plan for this widget. Free-tier widgets include Elfsight branding and view limits, and paid plans remove those restrictions.
Can I remove the widget later?
Yes. Delete the embed code from footer code injection and the banner disappears. You can also pause or delete the widget in your Elfsight dashboard.
