Overview

Custom Icons from SQS Mods lets you place social media icons, or any icon you choose, inside Squarespace blocks where Squarespace does not normally allow them. It started, as SQS Mods put it, with the idea of adding social icons to list sections, and grew from there. Our previous listing described it as a grid and spacing tool, which it is not; this is an icon injection plugin.

What it includes

A code snippet that injects icons into blocks by way of short text tags. The demo site shows the pattern: a team list section where each person's card carries their own X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads or YouTube icons, blog summary items with icons under each post, and icons dropped into ordinary text blocks next to names. Icons come in dark and light variants for different backgrounds, and SQS Mods describe them as fully customisable. Any icon can be used, not just social ones.

Who it suits

Team pages built with list sections, where each member needs their own social links; speaker and author listings; directories; and any layout where you want a small icon inside a block that Squarespace only lets you fill with text and an image. Designers who build a lot of team pages will get the most from it.

Trade-offs

Honest caveats: the product page is brief and there is no public documentation, so you are relying on the instructions that come with the purchase. It uses custom code, so expect to need a Core plan or higher (Business or Commerce on older plans) for code injection. SQS Mods do not offer refunds on digital products. The demo is password-protected, with the password on the product page, so look at it before you buy to be sure the pattern matches what you need. The licence is informal, allowing use across your own builds but not sharing.

How it installs

Paste the supplied code into code injection, then add the icon tags in the blocks where you want them following SQS Mods' instructions. It works on Squarespace 7.1.

FAQs

FAQs

What does the Custom Icons plugin do?
It injects social media icons, or any icon you choose, into Squarespace blocks that do not normally support them, such as list section items, blog summary items and text blocks.
Is it a grid or spacing plugin?
No. Our older listing was wrong about that. Custom Icons places icons inside blocks; it does not change column layouts or spacing.
Which blocks can I add icons to?
The demo shows icons in list section cards, under blog summary items and inside text blocks next to names. SQS Mods say any block can carry icons.
Can I use icons other than social media logos?
Yes. SQS Mods state you can inject any icon you want, and the set includes dark and light variants for different backgrounds.
Which Squarespace plan do I need?
It is custom code for Squarespace 7.1, so plan on a Core plan or higher (Business or Commerce on older plans) to use code injection.
Can I see it before buying?
Yes. A password-protected demo is linked from the SQS Mods product page with the password shown beside it.
