- Hidden sections still load with the page, so keep them light.
- Collapsed content is easy to miss without a clear trigger label.
- Custom code needs a plan that allows code injection.
Overview
What it is
Expand - Collapse Sections 2.0 is a plugin from SQS Mods for Squarespace 7.1 that hides whole page sections until a visitor asks to see them. If you have ever wanted a "read more" that reveals an entire designed section rather than a line of text, this is the mechanism. Older listings described it as a grid and spacing tool; it is not. It is a show and hide plugin for sections.
What it does
You build every section on the page as normal in the Squarespace editor, add the plugin code, and any section you mark stays hidden until it is called upon, then expands into view. Version 2.0 was rewritten from the ground up to answer the request SQS Mods say they heard most often: expanding several different sections independently on the same page, rather than one section per page as in the original release.
Who it suits
Long service pages where you want the detail available without the scroll, pricing pages with optional extras, course or programme outlines, and one-page sites that need to stay short on first view. It is also a tidy way to keep a page's design intact while hiding the parts most visitors do not need.
One honest caveat
Because the sections are built in the normal editor, they still exist on the page and load with it; the plugin controls visibility, not weight. Keep hidden sections light on images and video, and remember that content hidden by default is easy for visitors to miss, so the trigger needs a clear label.
Setup
Create your sections, add the SQS Mods code following their instructions and mark the sections to hide. It relies on custom code, so you will need a Squarespace plan that allows code injection.
