Overview

Facebook Feed from Elfsight shows posts, photos and videos from a Facebook Page you manage on a Squarespace page. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Elfsight's platform rather than native Squarespace code. In Elfsight's editor you log in to Facebook and authorise the widget, which then uses the official Facebook API to pull your Page's timeline, photo albums and videos and refreshes roughly every six hours. Posts show with like counts, reaction icons and comment counts, long posts get a See more link, and clicking a post opens it in a popup on your site with a carousel for multi-image posts. Squarespace has no native Facebook feed block, so this is one of the simpler routes.

Key features

  • Posts, photos and videos from a Page you administer
  • Official Facebook API connection with automatic refresh
  • Like, reaction and comment counts shown on posts
  • Popup viewing with full text and image carousels
  • Header and menu that switch between newsfeed and gallery
  • Interface text in more than 30 languages
  • Free plan with Elfsight branding and view limits

Who it suits

Local businesses, clubs, venues and community organisations whose news lives on their Facebook Page and who want the website to stay current without copying posts across by hand.

Honest limits

Only Pages where you are an admin or editor can be connected; personal profiles and groups are out. The connection relies on a Facebook login and, as with any Facebook API app, you may occasionally need to re-authorise. Posts appear after the refresh cycle, not instantly, and visitors who want to comment or react are sent to Facebook. Free-tier widgets carry Elfsight branding and monthly view limits, and the feed goes if your account lapses.

Installation on Squarespace

Authorise your Page in Elfsight's editor, choose the content and layout, copy the embed code and paste it into a Squarespace code block where the feed should appear. Later edits in the editor update automatically.

FAQs

FAQs

What does the Elfsight Facebook Feed widget do on a Squarespace site?
It displays posts, photos and videos from a Facebook Page you manage, with like and comment counts, and refreshes automatically as you post on Facebook.
Is this native Squarespace code?
No. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Elfsight's platform. You configure it in Elfsight's editor and paste an embed code into a Squarespace code block.
Can I show a personal profile or a group?
No. Facebook's API only lets the widget access Pages where you are an admin or editor, so personal profiles and groups cannot be displayed.
How quickly do new posts appear?
The feed refreshes roughly every six hours and caches data in between, so a new Facebook post shows on the site after that interval rather than immediately.
Can visitors comment from the website?
They can read the post and see engagement counts in a popup, but to comment or react the widget sends them to the post on Facebook.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Elfsight offers a free plan for this widget. Free-tier widgets include Elfsight branding and monthly view limits, which paid subscriptions remove.
