Overview

What it is

Common Ninja's Audio Player is a free, hosted widget that puts an MP3 or podcast player on a Squarespace page. You upload tracks or paste links to hosted audio, style the player in a live editor and paste one line of embed code into a code block. Squarespace has its own Audio Block, so what this adds is playlists with several tracks, more skins and layouts, a sticky mini-player that follows the visitor, and shuffle, loop and autoplay controls.

What it does

Tracks can be uploaded MP3 files or external URLs (hosted MP3, .ogg or .wav), mixed in one playlist with names, cover images and your own order. The editor offers ready-made skins, compact or featured layouts, top, bottom or inline positioning, colour, font and icon controls, and custom CSS. Because the widget is hosted, changing the playlist later needs no new embed.

Who it suits

Musicians sharing samples, podcasters who want episodes on their own site, authors with audiobook previews, coaches and teachers publishing meditations or lessons.

Honest caveats

The free plan covers one widget with view limits; more views, premium skins and advanced playlist features need a paid annual plan per widget. It is a third-party script on your page. Browsers block autoplay with sound, so treat autoplay as muted-start or leave it off. For a single track, Squarespace's native Audio Block is simpler.

Setup

Create a free account, add tracks and style the player, then add a code block to your Squarespace page and paste the snippet. Common Ninja quote under four minutes.

FAQs

FAQs

What does the Audio Player widget do?
It embeds a hosted audio player on a Squarespace page with a playlist of uploaded MP3s or external audio links, selectable skins and layouts, a sticky mini-player option and play, seek, volume, shuffle and loop controls.
Is it free?
The free plan covers one audio player widget with no time limit and no card, but it has view limits. Paid annual plans per widget add more views, premium skins and advanced playlist features.
What audio formats does it support?
MP3 is the standard. You can upload MP3 files directly or paste external URLs to hosted MP3, .ogg or .wav files, and mix both in one playlist.
How do I add it to Squarespace?
Build the player in Common Ninja's editor, copy the embed snippet, then add a code block to your Squarespace page and paste it in. Later edits to the playlist or styling update automatically.
Can it autoplay?
Autoplay, loop and shuffle can be switched on, but browsers block autoplay with sound by default, so pair it with a muted start or leave it off and give visitors an obvious play button.
How is it different from Squarespace's Audio Block?
The native Audio Block plays one file with basic styling. Common Ninja adds multi-track playlists, cover images, skins, layouts, a sticky player and shuffle. For a single track, the native block is simpler and loads no third-party script.
