Overview
Will Myers' Image Hotspots plugin puts numbered markers on a Squarespace image, each opening a tooltip when clicked or hovered. It works on standard image blocks and on product detail images, which is the part most alternatives miss: you can annotate a product photo on the product page itself. The demo site shows the range well, with a trainer annotated by feature, a store page, a floor plan and an onboarding walkthrough.
What it includes
Markers you position over any image block or product image, with tooltips that can hold text, images and links (Will calls the richer ones rich tooltips). Style customisations for marker and tooltip appearance, copy-and-paste code, an installation video, and mobile-friendly behaviour so the markers remain usable on a phone. Like all Will's plugins it is Fluid Engine compatible and works on every Squarespace 7.1 site. Two licences: single site, or multi-use for unlimited sites and for templates you sell.
Who it suits
Shops that want to explain product features on the photo rather than in a bullet list, estate agents and architects with floor plans, software companies with screenshot walkthroughs, and any site where a picture needs labelling. I have used this pattern for a furniture maker and for a lab equipment supplier, and in both cases it replaced a long paragraph nobody read.
Trade-offs
Honest caveats: it needs a Core (Business) plan or above because it uses code injection, and Will cannot guarantee compatibility with other custom code. Support is on a best-effort basis for 60 days after purchase and covers the plugin, not individual customisation. Placing markers precisely takes a little care on Fluid Engine, where image sizes change between breakpoints, so check every hotspot on mobile before publishing.

Watch the installation video, paste the code into code injection, then add markers by following the markup in the instructions. Will's plugins are maintained as Squarespace changes, and updates are pushed without you re-installing.
