Overview

Instagram Feed from Elfsight (their InstaShow product) shows posts from an Instagram account or hashtag on a Squarespace page. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Elfsight's platform rather than native Squarespace code. In Elfsight's editor you add up to five sources, which can be usernames, hashtags or a mix, and filter posts in or out by word, hashtag or URL. Photos, videos, carousel posts and Reels are all supported, with a Slider or Grid layout, a popup for full-size viewing, follow and share icons and optional call-to-action buttons. Squarespace does have a native Instagram block, so the question is whether you need the extra control this gives you.

Key features

  • Account or hashtag sources, up to five per widget
  • Photos, videos, carousels and Reels
  • Slider or Grid layouts with adjustable columns and rows
  • Show and hide filters by word, hashtag or post URL
  • Popup viewing, follow and share icons, call-to-action buttons
  • 12 colour schemes plus paintable elements
  • Free plan with Elfsight branding and view limits

Who it suits

Shops, restaurants, makers and creators whose Instagram is their most active channel, especially if you want to pull in a hashtag campaign or filter business posts from personal ones. If the native Squarespace Instagram block already does what you need, you may not need this at all.

Honest limits

A private or restricted profile will not display until it is switched to Business or Creator and connected. Posts do not appear instantly; Elfsight's own guidance for Instagram sources quotes a refresh of around 48 hours. Tagged or mentioned posts need the separate Social Feed widget. Free-tier widgets carry Elfsight branding and monthly view limits, and the feed stops if your Elfsight account lapses.

Installation on Squarespace

Connect your account or hashtag in Elfsight's editor, choose a layout, copy the embed code and paste it into a Squarespace code block where the feed should appear. Later edits in the editor update automatically.

FAQs

FAQs

What does the Elfsight Instagram Feed widget do on a Squarespace site?
It shows posts from an Instagram account or hashtag in a grid or slider on your page, including photos, videos, carousels and Reels, with a popup for full-size viewing.
Is this native Squarespace code?
No. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Elfsight's platform. You configure it in Elfsight's editor and paste an embed code into a Squarespace code block.
Squarespace has an Instagram block. Why use this?
The native block is fine for a simple grid of your own posts. Elfsight adds hashtag sources, up to five sources in one feed, keyword filters, a popup viewer and call-to-action buttons.
Do I need a Business account?
A public personal account works without a login. A private or restricted profile must be switched to Business or Creator mode and connected before posts will show.
Can I show posts where my account is tagged?
Not with this widget. Elfsight points to its separate Social Feed widget for tagged and mentioned posts.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Elfsight offers a free plan for this widget. Free-tier widgets include Elfsight branding and monthly view limits, which paid subscriptions remove.
