Overview

What it is

The PayPal Donate Button is a free, hosted widget from Common Ninja that puts a donation button on a Squarespace page. You connect a PayPal or Stripe account, set the amount and a thank-you message, and paste one line of embed code into a code block. Clicking the button opens a checkout hosted by the payment provider, so card details never touch your site and the money settles directly in your own account.

The old listing on this page talked about tabs and accordions. It is not that. It is a donate button and nothing else.

What it does

Each donation appears in your Common Ninja dashboard as a list you can export to CSV, email alerts and webhooks fire when one arrives, and a custom confirmation greets the donor after payment. There are ready-made styles, colour, font and spacing controls and custom CSS. Because the widget is hosted, edits appear on your site without touching the embed code again.

Who it suits

Small charities, clubs, community groups, creators and open source projects taking a one-off contribution on the page where they make the case, without a fundraising platform's setup or cut.

Honest caveats

Single donations only; recurring giving needs Common Ninja's separate Subscription Button or a membership tool. The free plan has usage limits and paid plans are an annual subscription per widget. Squarespace's own Donation Block does much of this natively on a Core plan or higher, so compare before adding a third-party script. Fees are PayPal's or Stripe's.

Setup

Create a free account, build the button, add a code block to your Squarespace page and paste the snippet. Common Ninja quote under four minutes.

FAQs

FAQs

What does the PayPal Donate Button do?
It adds a donation button to a Squarespace page. Clicking it opens a secure checkout hosted by PayPal or Stripe, the money settles in your own account, and a custom thank-you message appears when the donation completes.
Is it really free?
There is a free forever plan with core features and usage limits. Paid plans are an annual subscription per widget and add capacity and advanced options.
Can it take recurring donations?
No. This button handles a single donation. For regular giving Common Ninja sell a separate Subscription Button, and a membership tool is the better shape for it.
How do I add it to Squarespace?
Edit the page, add a code block, paste the Common Ninja embed snippet and make sure the block is not set to display as plain text. Then save and make one small live donation to test it.
Can I see who gave and export the records?
Yes. Donation activity appears in your Common Ninja dashboard and can be exported as a CSV, and email alerts and webhooks fire on every donation.
Should I use this or Squarespace's Donation Block?
Squarespace's native Donation Block takes one-off and recurring donations on a Core plan or higher with no third-party script. Common Ninja's button is worth it if you want Stripe or PayPal specifically, the hosted thank-you flow, webhooks, or you are on a plan without the native block.
