Overview

The Squarespace Content Library Filter Plugin from The Square Genius turns a native Squarespace 7.1 Simple List Section into a searchable, filterable content library, with category filters, live keyword search, A to Z sorting and a Show More button.

You keep editing your cards in the normal Squarespace editor and assign categories with a short label in each description. It works only with the built-in List Section on Squarespace 7.1, and costs $39 one-off with a multi-site licence.

Resource pages are a regular request on Squarespace builds: a charity with a stack of guides and reports, a training provider with videos, a page of useful links that keeps growing. Squarespace List Sections display that kind of content nicely as cards, but once there are more than a dozen or so, visitors end up scrolling to find anything. The Content Library Filter from Toni Hill at The Square Genius fixes that without moving the content anywhere.

It sits on top of a native Squarespace 7.1 Simple List Section and adds category filter buttons, live keyword search, alphabetical sorting and a Show More button. You assign categories by adding a short label such as [category: Guides] to each card description; the plugin reads the label, builds the filters and hides the label from visitors. Cards can sit in more than one category.

The practical appeal for agencies is that clients carry on editing cards in the List Section editor they already know, with no separate blog collection or database to maintain. Colours, borders, buttons and spacing can all be styled to match the site, while the native card designs stay as they are.

The limits are straightforward. It only works with Simple List Sections on Squarespace 7.1, not with summary blocks, blogs or portfolios. For blog-based directories with individual listing pages, Toni's Directory Plugin is the better fit, and for portfolios, blogs, galleries and events her Genius Filter Plugin covers those. It costs $39 one-off, with a licence covering multiple Squarespace 7.1 websites.
