For an agency or a support team that wants website chat to land where they already work, it removes a whole layer of faff.
Worth a look
A few more that are solid depending on your needs: Crisp, for a modern all-in-one inbox with a generous entry tier; Olark, a long-standing, straightforward widget popular with small businesses; and JivoChat, which bundles chat across website, email, and social with a free plan for small teams. None of these is a wrong answer. The right one depends on where you want the conversations to end up.
What I would actually choose
For a service business that wants quick, informal contact, I fit an Elfsight WhatsApp or AI Chatbot widget and move on, because it is no-code, cheap, and meets people where they already message. For a shop or a business that treats chat as a staffed sales channel, LiveChat is worth the spend. And when there is genuinely no budget, Tawk.to does the job without asking for a card. Whichever you pick, add just the one, test it on a phone, and make sure someone is actually going to answer it. A chat widget nobody replies to is worse than no chat widget at all.
A chat widget will not fix a weak site
One last piece of honesty from 400-plus builds since 2018: live chat converts visitors who were already close to enquiring. It does not rescue a page that fails to explain what you do or why anyone should trust you. Plugins add function, but the template underneath decides most of the design result, so if the site itself is the problem, fix that first.
