Squarespace Forma is a new AI builder from Squarespace that turns written prompts into custom websites and apps without code. It was unveiled at Circle Day 2026 and is currently in an early beta, with access by waitlist only. Pricing, launch dates and most of the technical detail have not been published yet. This guide sets out what Squarespace has actually said, including in the Circle Day keynote, what is still unknown, and what it means if you already run a Squarespace site or build them for clients.
I run Altitude Design, a Squarespace Platinum Partner agency with more than 400 client builds, and I was at Circle Day in New York this week. Forma was the announcement everyone was talking about afterwards, for good and bad reasons. I will keep this page updated as Squarespace releases more detail.

What Squarespace has actually said about Forma
The official information is thin, so it is worth being precise about it. On its Forma page, Squarespace describes Forma as an AI app builder that turns simple prompts into fully functional, custom apps and websites, with no code required. The page carries a "beta" label, a short line about it being a space to build websites, apps and "anything", a prompt asking what you would like to build, and a single button to join the waitlist.
There is no pricing table, no feature list, no documentation and no help centre section yet. Signing up gets you on a list for early access, not into the product.
The key facts so far
- What it is: a prompt-based, "AI native" builder for websites and apps
- Who makes it: Squarespace
- Status: early beta, waitlist only (October 2026). Squarespace told Circle partners they are "in the earliest part of the alpha"
- Price: not announced
- Where to sign up: squarespace.com/forma (see how to join the Forma waitlist)
What the Circle Day keynote added
The Circle Day 2026 opening keynote is now on YouTube, and Squarespace's president used it to set the scene for Forma. The useful points:
- It is built AI native from the ground up. "Everything in the new is native. It's all AI native," he said, describing Forma as bringing decades of experience running large-scale systems and design frameworks into a new platform.
- It is very early. Circle members were described as the first audience to see it. Squarespace is "building in public", partners were told to expect things to break, and access will come later.
- Squarespace keeps the hard parts. He said customers should not be building things like email systems, domains or payment rails, which carry security, compliance and risk, but should be able to build bespoke apps and connect them to other services. That hints that Forma projects will lean on Squarespace's own domains, payments and partner services such as Google Workspace, though Squarespace has not confirmed the details.
- 7.1 continues. In the same keynote he said 7.1 has "a strong runway ahead" and Squarespace will keep investing in it. More in Is Squarespace 7.1 going away?
Squarespace said the Product Deep Dive later in the day would go further into Forma. I will add anything concrete from that session here once the recording is out.
What we do not know yet
These are the questions I would want answered before recommending Forma to a client. None of them are answered on the official page today.
- Where Forma sites live. Is a Forma project a Squarespace 7.1 site, a separate platform, or something new? This matters for everything from hosting to billing.
- Whether clients can edit what it makes. Squarespace's big strength is that a client can log in and change a heading without breaking anything. If every change in Forma has to go back through a prompt, that is a very different handover.
- What "apps" means in practice. Logins, databases, payments and integrations are the hard part of any app. The keynote suggests Squarespace wants to provide payments, domains and email itself, but we do not know which of these Forma handles at launch.
- Commerce, scheduling and email. Will Forma projects get Squarespace Commerce, Acuity scheduling, Email Campaigns and the rest of the toolkit, or start without them?
- Custom code, extensions and plugins. Whether third-party plugins, code injection and Squarespace Extensions work inside Forma is unknown.
- Pricing and plans. Not announced, and that includes whether Forma sits inside existing plans or is billed separately.
- Exporting your work. Can you take the code with you? Many AI builders let you; Squarespace has historically not.
I would treat anything you read that answers these questions confidently with caution until Squarespace publishes documentation.
How Forma fits alongside Squarespace 7.1 and Blueprint AI
Squarespace now has three different ways to start a website, and it is easy to mix them up.
- Templates on 7.1. The classic route: pick a template, edit it in Fluid Engine. Still the main product, and still getting new features, including a new React-based custom code module with a vibe coding agent shown at Circle Day. See Is Squarespace 7.1 going away?
- Blueprint AI. Squarespace's existing AI website builder. You describe your business, it generates a multi-page site, and you then edit it in the normal Squarespace editor. It is available today.
- Forma. The new prompt-led builder for websites and apps, in early beta.
The difference between the last two is the one most people are asking about, so I have written it up separately in Squarespace Forma vs Blueprint AI. The short version: Blueprint AI is a fast way into a normal Squarespace site; Forma looks like a different kind of tool altogether.
Why Squarespace is building Forma
The website builder market has changed quickly. Tools such as Lovable, Bolt, Replit and v0 let people describe an app or site in plain English and get working code back, an approach widely called vibe coding. Wix moved into the same space when it bought Base44 in 2025. Framer and Webflow have both added AI site generation too.
Squarespace has been comparatively quiet, and plenty of designers in the Circle community have been saying so. In the keynote, Squarespace's president said the AI shift is more significant than the moves to mobile, social or the cloud, and acknowledged that Squarespace is "not usually first to market", arguing that waiting lets it see how the technology can be applied in useful ways. It is telling that Circle Day itself included a panel called "Vibe Coding: Hype, Risk, and Where It Actually Fits" with Becca Harpain, Dave Hawkins and Will Myers. Forma is Squarespace's answer to that shift: if people are going to build with prompts, Squarespace wants them to do it on Squarespace.
Squarespace's own blog makes an honest point about vibe-coded sites: you gain flexibility, but you also take on hosting, debugging, security and updates yourself. The open question with Forma is whether Squarespace can offer the prompt-led speed without handing those headaches to the customer. If it can, that would be a genuine difference from the standalone AI coding tools.
What Forma means if you already have a Squarespace site
Right now, nothing changes. Forma is a waitlist, not a migration. Your 7.1 site keeps working, your plan stays the same, and nothing in Squarespace's announcement asks you to move. If you are about to build a new site for your business, I would still build it on 7.1 today rather than wait for a beta with no launch date.
If you are curious, join the waitlist and try Forma on a side project when you get access. Do not move a live business site onto a beta product.
What Forma means for Squarespace web designers
This is where the reaction has been strongest. Much of the early response from designers was sceptical, and I understand why. Showing a tool that builds sites from prompts at an event for professional web designers lands awkwardly, and the lack of detail leaves room for worry.
My honest take, as someone whose business depends on Squarespace:
- The work clients pay us for is not typing. It is understanding their business, writing and structuring content, making it look right, making it rank and keeping it working. A prompt tool speeds up the first draft; it does not replace the judgement.
- Handover is the test. Squarespace wins client work because non-technical people can run their own sites. If Forma output is just as editable, it could be a useful tool for us. If it is not, it is aimed at a different customer.
- Do not reorganise your business around a waitlist. Keep building on 7.1, learn Forma when you can, and decide once there is something real to evaluate.
If you want to use AI inside Squarespace today, there are options that work with your existing sites. SquareKicker Compose adds AI-assisted design inside the Squarespace editor, and our guide to Squarespace's AI Visibility tool covers the AI search side.
What Forma means for Squarespace templates and plugins
Every template and plugin we list on SquareLocator is built for Squarespace 7.1, and they continue to work exactly as before. Whether they will work with Forma is unknown until Squarespace publishes how Forma projects are structured.
We will track this as details emerge and flag compatibility on listings once there is something to report. In the meantime, if you are choosing a template today, our best Squarespace templates in 2026 guide and the full template directory are the place to start, and the plugin directory covers everything the native editor does not.
Our verdict so far
Forma is a statement of intent rather than a product you can judge yet, and Squarespace itself calls it an early alpha. Squarespace clearly wants a place in the prompt-to-website market, and the brand and design pedigree give it a credible shot. But until we know how Forma sites are hosted, edited, priced and extended, it is too early to say who it is for. Join the waitlist if you are curious, keep building on 7.1 if you have work to ship, and check back here for updates.
Frequently asked questions
What is Squarespace Forma?
Forma is an AI builder from Squarespace that creates custom websites and apps from written prompts, with no code required. It is currently in an early beta and available by waitlist only.
Is Squarespace Forma available now?
Not to everyone. As of October 2026 Forma is in beta and you join a waitlist at squarespace.com/forma for early access. Squarespace has not published a general launch date.
How much does Squarespace Forma cost?
Squarespace has not announced pricing for Forma, including whether it will be part of existing website plans or billed separately.
Is Forma replacing Squarespace 7.1?
There is no sign of that. In the Circle Day keynote Squarespace said 7.1 has a strong runway ahead and that it will keep investing in it, and it demoed several new 7.1 features. Forma is a new, separate product in early beta.
What is the difference between Forma and Blueprint AI?
Blueprint AI is Squarespace's existing AI website builder, available today, which generates a normal Squarespace site you then edit in the drag-and-drop editor. Forma is a new prompt-led builder for websites and apps, currently in beta.
Will my Squarespace plugins and templates work with Forma?
Unknown for now. Templates and plugins built for 7.1 keep working on 7.1 sites. Squarespace has not yet explained how Forma projects are structured, so compatibility cannot be confirmed either way.
