Overview

Google Maps Widget from Common Ninja puts an interactive Google map with multiple pins on a Squarespace page. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Common Ninja's platform rather than native Squarespace code. In their editor you add locations by address, by business name (matched through Google Places) or by exact coordinates, and give each pin a title, description, photo and category. Visitors click a pin to see an info window with the address, opening hours, phone, website and a Directions button that opens Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze on their phone. You can pick a map skin, turn on a searchable location list and adjust the look with custom CSS. Common Ninja handles the Google Maps connection, so there is no API key to set up on your side.

Who it suits

Small businesses with two or more locations, venues and event organisers, and anyone who finds the native Squarespace Map Block too limited: it shows a single pin in Google's default styling with no per-location details. The free plan covers one map with no time limit.

One honest caveat

The free plan caps the number of pins per map, and category filters, CSV import and premium skins are paid features. It loads from Common Ninja's servers; if a paid subscription lapses the widget drops back to the free plan and premium features switch off. For a single location, the native Map Block is free and needs no third-party script.

Installation

Build the map in Common Ninja's editor, copy the embed snippet and paste it into a Squarespace code block on your contact or locations page. Edits made in the editor update every embed automatically.

FAQs

FAQs

What does the Common Ninja Google Maps widget do on a Squarespace site?
It embeds an interactive Google map with as many pins as you need. Each pin has its own info window with a photo, address, opening hours, phone, website and a directions button.
Is this native Squarespace code?
No. It is an embeddable widget hosted on Common Ninja's platform. You build it in their editor and paste a one-line embed snippet into a Squarespace code block.
Do I need my own Google Maps API key?
No. Common Ninja uses Google Maps for the tiles, geocoding and directions and handles that connection itself, so you are not asked for an API key.
How is it different from the Squarespace Map Block?
The native Map Block shows one pin with Google's default styling and no per-location details. This widget supports multiple pins, custom map skins, a searchable location list and branded info windows.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan includes one map widget with no time limit and no credit card. Paid plans add more maps, more pins per map, premium skins, category filtering and CSV import.
Can I remove the widget later?
Yes. Delete the code block from your Squarespace page and the map disappears. Deleting the widget does not cancel a paid subscription, so cancel that separately in the Common Ninja billing menu.
