Best Store Locator Plugins for Squarespace in 2026

Google Maps Widget by Common Ninja showing a location list and map on Squarespace

Quick answer: Squarespace has no built-in store locator, so if you need a map that visitors can search by postcode or town, you need a plugin. For most multi-location businesses I recommend the Elfsight Store Locator, because it is the only option here with proper postcode search and a free plan to test with. If you would rather pay once than subscribe, the Squarewebsites Advanced Map Block is the best one-off licence, and Common Ninja's Google Maps widget is the strongest free multi-pin map.

I run Altitude Design, a Squarespace Platinum Partner agency, and since 2018 we have built more than 400 client sites. A surprising number of those clients have more than one address: a bakery with three shops, a skincare brand stocked in forty independent retailers, a dealer network. The brief is always the same: "we want a map where people can type in their postcode and find the nearest one." Squarespace cannot do that out of the box, so here is what I actually fit instead. Every tool below was checked on the vendor's own site this week, because more than one map plugin sold for Squarespace is described wrongly around the web.

1. Elfsight Store Locator: the one I fit most often

Elfsight Store Locator widget showing a searchable map and location cards for a multi-location business on Squarespace

The Elfsight Store Locator is a purpose-built locator rather than a map with extra pins. Visitors search by ZIP or postcode, place name or address, and the widget shows the nearest locations as a list of cards beside the map. Each card can carry the address, phone, website, opening hours with a live open or closed status, a photo, a description and a "Get directions" button. You add locations by address, by business name (the details auto-fill from Google) or by CSV import, with no limit on the number of locations.

Two details matter for Squarespace owners. You do not need your own Google Maps API key, which removes the most common support ticket I get with map plugins. And it installs like every other Elfsight widget: build it in their editor, copy the embed code, paste it into a Code block, and later edits appear on your site without touching the page. Our Elfsight guide walks through the install steps and the plan structure.

The honest caveat: it is a subscription priced on widget views. I checked the pricing page this week: the free plan is capped at 200 views a month and shows Elfsight branding, and paid plans step up from a few dollars a month for 5,000 views to a premium tier with 150,000. A busy retail site can pass the free cap in a day, and over the limit the widget stops loading until you upgrade. Treat the free plan as a trial and budget for the entry paid plan from the start. My Elfsight for Squarespace review has the full picture.

2. Squarewebsites Advanced Map Block (Unlimited Sites): best one-off licence

Squarewebsites takes a different approach. Rather than embedding a third-party widget, the Advanced Interactive Map Block extends Squarespace's own Map Block so it can show many locations at once, each with its own marker and details panel, on a map styled to match your site instead of Google's default colours. The clever part is where the locations come from: type them in, or tick "use collection locations" and the map plots every item in a Gallery, Blog or Events collection using the location field Squarespace already provides. Adding a branch later means adding a collection item, which any client can manage.

This is the Unlimited Sites edition. I checked the vendor page this week: a one-time fee of $70 for any number of sites, against $40 for the single-site licence below, so a designer fitting maps for several clients is ahead on the second install. It works on all templates on Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1.

The honest caveat: on its own this is a multi-location map, not a locator. There is no search box until you add Squarewebsites' separate Universal Filter plugin, which brings address and ZIP search plus tag and category filtering, so price the pair if search is essential. It installs through footer code injection, the code is emailed after purchase, and because it rides on the native Map Block it only shows addresses Google can find.

3. Squarewebsites Advanced Map Block (Single Site): the same plugin for one site

Squarewebsites Advanced Map Block plugin for a single Squarespace site with multiple location pins and custom map styling

The single-site Advanced Map Block is the same plugin with a licence for one Squarespace domain, at a one-time fee of $40 (verified on the vendor site this week). For a business with a handful of its own locations and no appetite for a monthly bill, this is the one I usually recommend: a cafe with four branches, an estate agent with three offices. Because locations can come from a collection, you can pair the map with a Blog page where each location has its own write-up, which helps local search too.

The honest caveat: the same three points as the unlimited edition. No postcode search without the Universal Filter add-on, footer code injection with a licence tied to your domain, and the native Map Block's dependence on Google Maps. Squarewebsites say it works on Personal as well as Business plans, but I would plan on Business or higher for anything that relies on code injection.

4. Common Ninja Google Maps widget: best free multi-pin map

Common Ninja Google Maps widget with multiple location pins and a searchable location list for Squarespace

A quick correction first, because this product is described wrongly in more than one place around the web: the Common Ninja Google Maps widget is a multi-pin map, not a set of buttons or tabs. I went through the vendor page this week. You drop as many pins as you need, give each a title, description, photo, opening hours, phone and category, pick a map skin and add a one-click directions button that opens Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze on a phone. A searchable location list sits beside the map, and clicking an entry highlights its pin. It runs on Google Maps underneath, installs with one line of embed code, and the free plan covers one map widget with no time limit and no credit card, which makes it the best genuinely free option here.

The honest caveat: the search is by name or city, not by postcode with a nearest-first result, so it is a map with a list rather than a true locator. Category filtering, CSV import, extra maps and higher pin limits are paid features, so a stockist list of a hundred shops will push you onto a paid tier. It is a subscription like Elfsight, so if you are avoiding recurring fees, look at Squarewebsites instead.

5. Common Ninja Interactive Maps: for coverage maps, not store search

Common Ninja Interactive Maps widget showing a colour-coded region map with tooltips, an alternative to a store locator for Squarespace

I have included the Common Ninja Interactive Maps widget because it turns up in every search for a Squarespace store locator, and it is worth being clear about what it is. It is not a Google Map. It is a library of more than 250 stylised country and region maps where each area is a clickable polygon you can colour-code, give a tooltip with an image and text, and link to a page on your site. That suits a different question, "which areas do you cover?": a delivery firm showing service regions, a franchise showing territories, a distributor showing where it ships. For that job it is neat and free to start.

The honest caveat: it cannot plot street addresses, it has no search, and it will not tell anyone where the nearest shop is. Use it alongside a proper locator, not instead of one.

When the native Squarespace Map Block is enough

Before you buy anything, be honest about how many places you actually have. Squarespace's built-in Map Block drops one pin on a Google map with a short caption, and that is all it does: no search, no second pin, no list. For a single shop, studio or office on a contact page it is exactly right, it costs nothing, and it loads faster than any widget. For two or three locations, one Map Block per location in a two-column layout is a respectable answer. The moment a visitor has to work out which of ten locations is closest, the native block stops being enough. Squarespace has no built-in multi-location locator on any plan or template, so do not wait for one to appear in the editor.

How to choose a Squarespace store locator

Count your locations. One to three: native Map Blocks. Four to a few dozen, all yours: a Squarewebsites Advanced Map Block, or the Common Ninja Google Maps widget if you want it free. Dozens to hundreds, or a stockist list that changes every month: the Elfsight Store Locator with CSV import.

Decide whether search is essential. If visitors must type a postcode and get the nearest result, only Elfsight does that out of the box. Squarewebsites can with the Universal Filter add-on. Common Ninja searches by name or city, fine for "is there one in Leeds?" but not for "which is nearest to me?"

Be clear about subscriptions. Elfsight and Common Ninja are subscriptions, and the widget stops working if you stop paying or exceed your view limit. Squarewebsites is a one-off licence you own. A locator is a permanent fixture, so a subscription is a permanent line in the budget.

Check the plan and the API key question. Embed-code widgets go into a Code block and work on any plan that supports code blocks. Squarewebsites uses code injection, which in practice means the Business plan or higher. None of these tools asks you for a Google Maps API key, but the Squarewebsites plugins are only as good as Google's geocoding of your addresses.

Think about GDPR and consent. Every option here loads Google Maps, which sets cookies and receives the visitor's IP address. If you serve visitors in the UK or EU, name the map provider and the widget vendor in your privacy policy, and check that the widget respects your cookie banner.

A locator sits inside a template, so choose the template first

Every locator here is a block or an embed dropped into a page, and it will look as good as the page around it and no better. Our Squarespace templates hub has curated designs from independent designers, and the Squarespace templates for retail brands collection is the one to start with if you sell physical products through your own shops or through stockists, because those layouts already have product, stockist and contact pages you can drop a locator into. If you also sell online, my guide to the best Squarespace templates for ecommerce covers picking a storefront, and the Elfsight for Squarespace review explains which other Elfsight widgets earn a place beside the locator.

Frequently asked questions

Does Squarespace have a built-in store locator?

No. The native Map Block shows a single pin with no search and no list, and there is no multi-location locator on any plan or template. To let visitors find their nearest shop, stockist or branch you need a third-party plugin such as the Elfsight Store Locator or the Squarewebsites Advanced Map Block.

What is the best store locator plugin for Squarespace?

For most multi-location businesses the Elfsight Store Locator is the strongest choice: postcode, address and name search, unlimited locations, CSV import, location cards with opening hours and directions, and an embed-code install. If you prefer a one-off purchase, the Squarewebsites Advanced Map Block is the best alternative.

Is there a free store locator for Squarespace?

Partly. The Elfsight Store Locator has a free plan, but it is capped at a small number of monthly views and shows Elfsight branding, so treat it as a trial. The Common Ninja Google Maps widget's free plan covers one multi-pin map with a searchable list, the best genuinely free option if you can live without postcode search.

Can visitors search by postcode on a Squarespace map?

Not with the native Map Block. The Elfsight Store Locator supports ZIP or postcode, address and place name search out of the box. The Squarewebsites Advanced Map Block adds address and ZIP search when paired with the separate Universal Filter plugin. The Common Ninja Google Maps widget searches by name or city only.

Do I need a Google Maps API key for a Squarespace store locator?

Not for the tools in this guide. Elfsight states its Store Locator needs no API key, Common Ninja's hosted widget handles the map on its side, and the Squarewebsites plugins extend Squarespace's own Map Block. You should still name Google Maps and the widget provider in your privacy policy, because the map sets cookies and receives visitor IP addresses.

Which Squarespace plan do I need for a store locator plugin?

Embed-code widgets such as Elfsight and Common Ninja are pasted into a Code block, so they work on any plan that supports code blocks. The Squarewebsites Advanced Map Block installs through footer code injection, which in practice means the Business plan or higher.
