OakEmber (Oak and Ember on the demo) is a Squarespace 7.1 template by Byler Media, sold through the SquareKicker template store, built for restaurants, bistros and chef-led concepts with more than one location. The demo is a wood-fired farm-to-table restaurant in Austin: a fire-flavour-fresh-from-the-farm hero, a scrolling banner, an about section, a menu teaser with daily specials, reviews, a catering section and an events section, with a Menu page, an Order Online page, a Reservations page, About, Contact with hours and two locations, and Terms and Conditions. The old listing had the audience right but listed a five-page site with an Events page and built-in reservation tools, which is not quite it: there are seven layouts, no events page, and reservations and ordering are pages waiting for your provider's widget.

What you get

  • Seven page layouts: Home, Menu, Order Online, Reservations, About, Contact and Terms and Conditions, on Squarespace 7.1 with Fluid Engine
  • A menu page with a specials block and a weekly farm highlight, plus catering, events and quote sections
  • Order Online and Reservations pages laid out for an embedded provider, and a footer with hours and two locations
  • A cream, wood brown, blue-grey and deep green palette that changes in the Squarespace style editor
  • SquareKicker scroll effects, magnetic motion, a sticky section and a sticky split, editable while the extension is active
  • A one-off purchase with a free 30-day SquareKicker extension trial

Who it suits

Independent restaurants, bistros, gastropubs, smokehouses and cafes that take reservations and online orders, especially those with two sites. A single-location cafe can delete the second location block. It is not built for a bar with no food or a food truck without a menu page.

Honest limits

Reservations and online ordering are pages, not systems: you embed OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Toast, Square or a similar provider. The menu is edited by hand in Squarespace blocks, not fed from a POS. There is no events calendar page despite the old listing; events are a section on the home page. No gift-card sales without commerce. The motion effects are SquareKicker features that stay in place after the 30-day trial but need a subscription to keep editing.

How it is delivered

SquareKicker templates install through the SquareKicker Template Engine onto a new or existing Squarespace 7.1 site: connect the free SquareKicker extension, pick the template and it installs in a few clicks, with the choice of keeping your existing site styles or replacing them with the template's. There is no duplicate site to copy from. The purchase is one-off and includes a 30-day SquareKicker extension trial; you need a Squarespace Core plan or higher to publish, and SquareKicker template buyers get 10 per cent off a Squarespace plan.

FAQs

FAQs

Who is OakEmber designed for?
Byler Media built it for restaurants, bistros and chef-led concepts. The demo is a wood-fired farm-to-table restaurant with a menu, specials, reservations, online ordering, catering and two locations.
What pages are included?
Seven layouts: Home, Menu, Order Online, Reservations, About, Contact and Terms and Conditions, on Squarespace 7.1 with Fluid Engine.
Are reservations and ordering built in?
No. The Reservations and Order Online pages are laid out for an embedded provider such as OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Toast or Square, which you connect yourself.
Is there an events page?
No. The old listing said so, but events are a section on the home page. Add a Squarespace events page if you run a calendar.
Do I need a SquareKicker subscription to use the template?
No. The template is a one-off purchase and it comes with a free 30-day SquareKicker extension trial. The scroll effects, magnetic motion and sticky sections are SquareKicker features, so to keep editing them after the trial you need a SquareKicker subscription; the styling itself stays on the site. You do need a Squarespace Core plan or higher to publish.
How is the template installed?
Through the SquareKicker Template Engine onto a new or existing Squarespace 7.1 site, in a few clicks, keeping or replacing your existing site styles.
