Rebecca is a Squarespace 7.1 template sold through the SquareKicker template store and designed by Amrita Nandagopal for authors, and specifically for writers of thrillers, crime and psychological fiction. The demo is a novelist called Rebecca Blake: a shadowy hero with the tagline Stories That Stay With You Long After the Final Page, a New Release panel, a Meet the Author section, a run of press-style review quotes and a newsletter signup, all in black, charcoal and white with cinematic transitions.

What you get

  • Seven page layouts: Home, About, Books, a single book page, Events and Media, Journal (a blog) and Contact
  • Squarespace 7.1 with Fluid Engine, so sections are drag and drop in the standard editor
  • 13 saved sections, including new release, reviews, author bio, events and newsletter
  • SquareKicker effects built in: smooth scroll, footer reveal, stencils, horizontal scrolling and scroll effects
  • Newsletter signup blocks across the site and a contact form for agents, press and readers

Who it suits

Novelists with a backlist or a series, especially in crime, thriller, horror and noir, who want their site to feel like the books. It also suits a screenwriter or podcaster with a dark brand.

Honest limits

There is no shop, so book sales link out to retailers or need Squarespace Commerce added. The dark, moody look is the point; an author of cosy romance or children's books should look at a lighter template. Each book is a hand-built page, so a large backlist means duplicating. The stencil and horizontal scroll effects depend on the SquareKicker Extension after the 30-day trial.

How it is delivered

SquareKicker templates install onto a new or existing Squarespace 7.1 site the moment you buy, keeping or replacing your existing styles. It is a one-off purchase for one site, with a 30-day SquareKicker Extension trial and 10 per cent off a Squarespace plan. You need a Business or Core plan or higher to publish, and SquareKicker does not refund digital products.
