SquareOptimizer is a browser extension that scans a Squarespace site, finds every oversized image and compresses them in place from inside the Squarespace editor. There is no downloading, re-uploading or repositioning. It is made by StarterPlugins (Greengo Development Ltd).
What you get
- A free scan of a single page or the whole site, listing every image and its file size
- Bulk compression to a target size you set (250 KB is the vendor's suggested target)
- Coverage of pages, product pages, blog posts, portfolio pages and gallery blocks
- A live log showing before and after sizes for each image
- One-click revert for any image
- A downloadable PDF report, handy as a record for client work
Who it suits
Squarespace designers and agencies tidying up client sites, photographers and portfolio owners, online stores with lots of product shots, and anyone whose PageSpeed score is dragged down by phone photos uploaded at full size. From our own agency work, oversized images are the most common reason a Squarespace site scores badly on mobile, and fixing them by hand is slow.
Honest limits
It runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave only; Safari and Firefox are not listed. Credits expire 30 days after purchase, so buy when you have a batch to do. Compression is lossy, so check large hero and photography images after optimising, and use the revert if anything looks soft. It fixes image weight, not other speed issues such as heavy scripts or fonts.
Pricing and setup
10 free optimisations to start and scanning is always free. After that, $17 buys 100 image credits and $47 buys 500, as one-off packs with optional auto-renew. One credit optimises one image. Install the extension, open your Squarespace editor, scan, select and optimise.
