Tortuga is a Squarespace 7.1 template by Jen Maher Consulting, sold through the SquareKicker template store, built for restaurants and bars that do not want to look like every other restaurant site. The demo is a beachfront Mexican restaurant in Baja California Sur: a long scrolling home page that moves from the hero into a where-to-find-us block, a six-dish menu (ceviche, Baja fish tacos, tableside guacamole and so on), an image gallery, a section for the bar, one for the vibe, a list of upcoming events and a social prompt. The navigation adds Events, Gallery, Reviews and a playful I-Spy page. It is a menu-and-atmosphere site, not the booking-led template older listings described.

What you get

  • Five pages: Home, Events, Gallery, Reviews and I-Spy, all Squarespace 7.1 Fluid Engine so sections are drag and drop
  • A scrolling home page with location, menu, gallery, bar, vibe and events sections, so a small venue can run on the home page alone
  • A styled menu layout for dishes and drinks, an image gallery and an events list for live music and specials
  • A white, blue and neutral palette that changes in the Squarespace style editor
  • SquareKicker scroll effects and animation settings, editable while the SquareKicker extension is active
  • A one-off purchase with a free 30-day SquareKicker extension trial

Who it suits

Independent restaurants, beach bars, taquerias and cafes with strong food and interior photography and a bit of personality to show. The events and reviews pages make it a good fit for a venue that runs live music or wants to surface Google and Tripadvisor quotes. It also suits a new opening that needs to launch fast.

Honest limits

There is no reservations page and no built-in booking: to take table bookings you embed OpenTable, Resy, Tock or a Squarespace form, and to take orders you add Squarespace commerce yourself. The menu is a styled layout you edit by hand, not a menu block that syncs with a POS. The demo copy is very beach-Mexican, so a formal dining room rewrites more than it swaps. It ships with five pages, which is lean; a group with several venues will outgrow it. The animations are SquareKicker features: they stay in place after the trial, but editing them again needs a subscription.

How it is delivered

SquareKicker templates install through the SquareKicker Template Engine onto a new or existing Squarespace 7.1 site: connect the free SquareKicker extension, pick the template and it installs in a few clicks, with the choice of keeping your existing site styles or replacing them with the template's. There is no duplicate site to copy from. The purchase is one-off and includes a 30-day SquareKicker extension trial; you need a Squarespace Core plan or higher to publish, and SquareKicker template buyers get 10 per cent off a Squarespace plan.

FAQs

FAQs

Who is Tortuga designed for?
Jen Maher Consulting built it for restaurants and bars that want to stand out. The demo is a beachfront Mexican restaurant with a long scrolling home page covering location, menu, gallery, bar, vibe and events.
What pages are included?
Five pages: Home, Events, Gallery, Reviews and I-Spy, on Squarespace 7.1 with Fluid Engine. Most of the content sits on the scrolling home page.
Does Tortuga include a reservation system?
No. Older listings said it did, but there is no reservations page. You add a booking widget such as OpenTable or Resy, or a Squarespace form, yourself.
Can I sell food or merchandise on the site?
Not out of the box. There is no shop page; you add Squarespace commerce or an ordering integration on top.
Do I need a SquareKicker subscription to use the template?
No. The template is a one-off purchase and it comes with a free 30-day SquareKicker extension trial. The template's animations are SquareKicker features, so to keep editing them after the trial you need a SquareKicker subscription; the styling itself stays on the site. You do need a Squarespace Core plan or higher to publish.
How is the template installed?
Through the SquareKicker Template Engine onto a new or existing Squarespace 7.1 site, in a few clicks, with the option to keep your existing styles or use the template's.
