What Altaloma is
Altaloma (styled Alta Loma in the demo) is one of Squarespace's own free 7.1 templates, built on Fluid Engine and set up as a small online shop for a handmade soap and skincare maker. Product blocks sit right on the home page, there is a journal for blog posts and the footer carries a newsletter sign up with a first order discount. The old listing on this page described a fitness and wellness template with class schedules and membership pages; none of that exists. Altaloma is a small product shop, and I have rewritten this from the demo.
What it does
The demo has five main pages: Home, Shop, Journal, About and Contact, plus Shipping and Returns and Stockists pages linked from the footer. The home page leads with a hero and a shop call to action, shows three featured products with add to cart buttons, follows with an ingredients section, three short value statements (pure ingredients, small batch, cruelty free), a journal summary block and a newsletter sign up. The Shop is a standard Squarespace store page, the Journal is a blog, About tells the maker's story with an ingredients list, and Contact is a simple form. Everything is built from native blocks (product, summary, newsletter, form), so there is nothing custom to maintain.
Who it suits
Small makers selling a handful of products: soap, skincare, candles, ceramics, food and drink, or any brand with a short catalogue and a story to tell. It is also a sensible starting point for a stockist led brand that sells wholesale and wants a simple direct shop alongside.
One honest caveat
This is a free Squarespace template, so it is a starting point with placeholder copy on every page, not a finished design. To sell you need a Squarespace plan that includes commerce, which at the time of writing means Core or above, and the demo's small catalogue layout will need rethinking if you have dozens of products. There is no wholesale or stockist functionality beyond a plain page.
Setup
Altaloma is free and included with every Squarespace plan. Choose it when you start a new site or preview the demo and click to begin from it; there is no licence and nothing to install. Squarespace 7.1 does not allow switching templates on an existing site, so you would start a new trial from Altaloma and move content across. Expect one to three hours to replace the demo content on the seven pages.
