What Nyx is

Nyx is a Squarespace 7.1 template by Big Cat Creative with a bold, minimal look: black and white, large serif headings and plenty of breathing room. The demo is set up as a photographer's site covering weddings, editorial and portraits, and the vendor also lists small businesses, service providers, designers and real estate as good fits. The old listing on this site counted four pages; Big Cat Creative lists seven and the demo navigation agrees.

The pages and sections you get

The seven pages are Home, Services, Info, About, Blog, Portfolio and Contact. The home page runs a full-width hero, an "as seen in" logo strip, a short intro with a booking button, three category tiles, a portfolio preview, a meet-the-photographer block, testimonials, featured client posts pulled from the blog and a free guide opt-in. Services lists three offers, each with an accordion of what is included and a starting price, and Info is the single-offer detail page with a deliverables list, a four-stage process, a story block and an FAQ. About adds a timeline and a light-hearted quiz section, Portfolio is a grid of six projects with a featured project quote, and Contact pairs a form with an FAQ. Matching sales page, shop, podcast, freebie and Instagram links layouts exist but are sold separately as add-ons.

Who it suits

I would put Nyx in front of a photographer or creative who wants a stark, editorial feel rather than something soft and romantic, and in front of any service business with a small menu of offers and a body of work to show. The Services and Info pairing is the useful bit: one page to list what you do, one page to sell a single offer in depth.

One honest caveat

Nyx is a new release, so there are no customer sites to look at yet, only the demos. As with the rest of the Big Cat Creative range there is no shop in the base build and no client gallery, proofing or booking system, so photographers will need a separate tool for delivering images and taking bookings. The free guide opt-in on the home and contact pages is a newsletter block that needs a storage connection before it does anything.

Setup and what is included

Nyx is native Squarespace 7.1, so every section is edited with the standard editor and site styles panel and there is no code to maintain. The fonts are Squarespace's own, and Big Cat Creative publishes three reworked demos (Nyx Classic, Nyx Summer and Nyx Wednesday) that show the same layout with different colours, fonts and imagery, which I find a better test of flexibility than any list of adjectives. Purchase includes delivery within 48 hours as a new site or an install into your existing 7.1 site, step by step video tutorials, a prep and branding guide, a copywriting workbook, editable Canva graphics, an SEO checklist and launch guide, and email support. The vendor recommends the Core plan because some of its templates use custom CSS.
