Spotted

Spotted is a free Squarespace 7.1 template built as a small online shop for a working artist. The demo is a watercolour painter selling prints, and the whole site is arranged around selling: the nav is just Shop, About and Contact, the homepage leads with a full-width hero, two featured series with Shop Now buttons, a Popular Prints product block and a newsletter sign-up, and the Shop page is a proper Squarespace store with category filters and product options for framing and mounting. It is one of the few free templates where commerce is the point rather than an afterthought, and I would put it alongside the other no-cost options in our free Squarespace templates collection before looking at anything paid.

Who it suits

Painters, printmakers, illustrators and photographers who want to sell prints or originals directly, with a short About page to tell their story and a simple contact form. It also works for a small maker or ceramicist, since the layout is really a product catalogue with a personal introduction attached.

One honest caveat

This is a starting layout, not a finished site. Three pages is a thin skeleton, there is no custom code, and the design leans on large, well-lit images of the work. If your product photography is weak, the homepage looks empty very quickly. You will also need a Squarespace commerce plan to actually take payments, which the free template does not change.

Pick Spotted in Squarespace's template picker or start from the demo, then swap the demo prints for your own products, rewrite the About page and connect the newsletter form. Everything is built with Fluid Engine, so sections can be dragged, resized and duplicated without touching code. Plan an afternoon to replace the content and set up shipping, tax and payment settings.
