Quick answer: if you build Squarespace sites for clients, the Squarehead Advanced Squarespace Course is the most complete option in 2026. Business owners building their own site should start with Site School or Squarespace Mastery. For custom CSS, take Squarespace CSS Mastery or Custom Layouts in Squarespace. For the business side, choose The Web Designer's Playbook (client projects) or Scale with Templates (selling templates).
I have been building Squarespace sites at Altitude Design since 2018, and I learnt most of what I know the slow way: broken builds, late nights in the CSS editor and clients asking for layouts I did not yet know how to make. A good course would have saved me months. For this guide I went through every course in our Squarespace courses collection, read each vendor's own sales page and curriculum on 21 September 2026, and picked the eight I would actually pay for.
These are independent courses from working designers, not official Squarespace training. Prices are what each vendor page showed when I checked; most are one-off purchases with lifetime access and no refunds.

1. Advanced Squarespace Course by Squarehead
Best for: designers who can already build a decent 7.1 site and want a system for building better ones and charging properly for them.
Squarehead is run by Dave Hawkins, a UK-based Squarespace Expert, Circle Community Leader and Authorised Trainer behind the studio Made by Dave. The course page says it is built on 18,000 hours of client work, and the curriculum reads like it. Eleven modules cover workflow setup (DevTools, colour systems, snippets), going beyond the Style Editor (spacing, scale, typography, motion), real builds under the hood, code injection, SEO and analytics (domains, Search Console, GA4, structured data), accessibility, client delivery, brand-level design, an AI "vibe coding" masterclass with ChatGPT and Claude, and pricing and packaging services as a studio.
What I like is that it treats the business side as part of the craft: handover checklists, a live style guide and a value-based pricing framework are things most designers never get taught. It is also the only course here written from a UK point of view.
Honest caveat: it is the most expensive platform course here and not for beginners. Two lessons (Stacks, animation and triggers) were marked "coming soon" when I looked, and Squarehead does not refund digital courses. Lifetime access is included and a four-payment plan spreads the cost.

2. Squarespace Mastery 3.0 by Applet Studio

Best for: beginners and creatives adding web design to their services, who want design fundamentals rather than just where the buttons are.
Olga at Applet Studio calls Squarespace Mastery a "web design 101" workshop series, and that is the right framing. It starts with Figma and the rules of layout, typography and grids, then builds a base "Vanilla" theme in Squarespace 7.1 with Figma files and CSS snippets included, followed by a copywriting section, a practicum where two brands go from mood board to live build, and a homework assignment with personalised feedback. Over 700 students have taken it, and this third version was updated for Fluid Engine.
Honest caveat: if you only want to update your own site, the Figma and design theory are more than you need, and Site School is the better fit. The Fluid Engine update dates from 2023, so some videos will look slightly different from today's interface. Local VAT is added to the $157 price at checkout.

3. Squarespace CSS Mastery by Applet Studio
Best for: anyone who has been pasting CSS snippets they do not understand and wants to write their own.
This is Applet Studio's coding course, taught by co-founder Roman, and the one I would send a junior designer to first. It runs to more than eight hours of video on Teachable in short chunks: how HTML and CSS fit together, the cascade and selectors, responsive techniques, applying CSS in Squarespace, and the Chrome inspector. A 2025 update added a lecture on using ChatGPT to write and debug CSS, a realistic take on how most of us work now. The first lecture is free to watch, and no prior CSS is required.
Honest caveat: it is a foundations course, not a snippet library, and Applet Studio say it takes a couple of months of weekly practice. All sales are final. For a quicker, layout-specific win, the Schwartz-Edmisten workshops below are cheaper and narrower. My guide to custom CSS in Squarespace covers the basics of where code goes.

4. Custom Layouts in Squarespace by Schwartz-Edmisten

Best for: designers who keep getting asked for split layouts, boxed sections and mockup-style homepages that Fluid Engine does not give you.
Chris Schwartz-Edmisten has been a full-time Squarespace designer since 2018, is a Circle Leader and runs a YouTube channel with over 6,000 subscribers, so you can preview his teaching for free. The course is five video modules: gathering inspiration, Fluid Engine tips, full-bleed split layouts, the three ways to build boxed content and the pitfalls of each, and a 50-minute homepage build from a custom mockup. Every layout comes with copy-and-paste CSS, updates are included for life, and there is a 20% discount code for his shop.
Honest caveat: it is 7.1 only, and a layout course rather than a CSS course, so to understand why the code works you will still want CSS Mastery. No refunds. At $129 it is the best value pick here.

5. Schwartz-Edmisten Workshops: Header Design, Full Build and Boxed Cards
Best for: picking up one specific technique in an evening for $49.
Chris also sells short single-topic workshops, and three are on SquareLocator. Advanced Header Design (1 hour 14 minutes) rebuilds the header with CSS grid, restyles dropdowns and active items and uses LESS variables; it assumes some CSS. Full Build: From Mockup to Squarespace (50 minutes) is beginner friendly: you get the mockup, style guide and assets, then watch the whole thing built and made mobile responsive. Boxed Card Layout (30 minutes) builds a reusable three-card bordered section with a hover effect.
Honest caveat: each is a single lesson, not a curriculum. Lifetime access, no refunds, and all three are free with his Pro membership, so check that if you want more than two.

6. Site School by Launch Out Loud
Best for: business owners who want to build, launch and keep updating their own site without a designer on call.
Site School is a tutorial library organised the way a real build goes: Get Started (trial, dashboard, plans, domain), Squarespace 101 (menus and settings), Build and Customise (site styles, content types, blog, shop and podcast), Products and Tools (Scheduling, Email Campaigns, Courses, Invoicing) and Launch (SEO settings, analytics, privacy, accessibility). It is built on 7.1 Fluid Engine, the introductory lessons take about an hour, and access is for life.
Honest caveat: it comes free with any Launch Out Loud template, so if you are also template shopping, buy the template and get the course thrown in rather than paying $297 separately. No refunds. And it teaches the platform, not design.

7. The Web Designer's Playbook by Christy Price

Best for: designers in their first few years of client work whose projects drag and who have no repeatable process.
Christy Price has been a web designer for over twenty years; the Playbook is her Squarespace project process handed over. Twelve modules run from discovery calls and proposals through the strategy call, collecting content, the build, the launch, defining your offer, pitching and running the business. The templates are the real product: her Asana project template, discovery questionnaire, proposal, timeline and content docs, a feedback questionnaire and more than twenty email templates. When I checked, the page listed limited-time bonuses of six monthly calls, a Slack group and a meetup in New York the week of Circle Day.
Honest caveat: at $1,497 it is by some distance the dearest course here, and it will not teach you to design or build. If your process problem is smaller, Applet Studio's Client Work Remastered covers sales calls, onboarding, presenting concepts and productising services from a similar angle. Christy also gives away a free 50-point Squarespace pre-launch checklist, a good way to sample her teaching first.

8. Scale with Templates by Kate Scott
Best for: designers who want to sell Squarespace templates instead of, or alongside, client work.
Kate Scott teaches the whole template shop model in five modules: the build (niche, what sells, CSS for templates), delivery (files, graphics, post-purchase emails, support), the sale (pricing, legal, sales page, checkout), the launch (beta launch, listings, an affiliate programme, a funnel) and growth, where five guest experts cover Pinterest, YouTube, blogging, LinkedIn and Instagram. Bonuses include Figma shop mockups, Canva launch graphics, email swipe files and a private community. The page says more than 400 designers have joined, and it is the only course here with a money-back guarantee (14 days).
Honest caveat: the page was running a "save $500" countdown when I looked, so the $797 price may be promotional. Kate is upfront that most of the content only applies to Squarespace templates, not Showit or WordPress. For the operational side of an established shop, Applet Studio's The Template Shop Business ($797) is a Notion knowledge base of their internal documents plus video training, from a shop that has sold over 2,000 templates.

How to Choose a Squarespace Course
Start with the problem, not the syllabus. There are four.
- "I cannot work the platform." Site School, or Squarespace Mastery if you also want to learn design.
- "My sites look generic." Custom Layouts in Squarespace first, then CSS Mastery when you want to write your own code. The Squarehead course covers both, if you are ready for the price.
- "My client projects are chaos." The Web Designer's Playbook, or Client Work Remastered if you want something lighter.
- "I want income that is not client work." Scale with Templates or The Template Shop Business. If the plan is to sell an online course rather than templates, 23&9 Creative's The Course on Squarespace Courses is a ten-lesson, roughly one-hour walkthrough of Squarespace's built-in Courses feature.
Then check the Squarespace version (everything here is 7.1), the refund policy (only Scale with Templates offers one) and whether you can watch a free lecture first, because teaching style matters more than the module list.
Templates and Tools That Shorten the Learning Curve
A course teaches you to build; a good template means you do not build everything from scratch. If you are learning, start from a design in our Squarespace templates collection and pull it apart, which is how most of us learnt. For course creators and educators, the Squarespace templates for course creators and templates for educators collections are built around lesson pages and sign-ups, and templates for designers is the place for a portfolio starting point. Christy Price also sells a Starter Template for Web Designers ($97 when I checked) with a professional licence for unlimited client use.
On tools, SquareKicker adjusts spacing, typography and animation visually without writing the CSS yourself, a genuine shortcut while you are still learning it; my SquareKicker review covers where it helps. And if a course sends you towards SEO and launch checklists, as Squarehead's and Site School's do, SEOSpace audits every page of a Squarespace site against the same list.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Squarespace course in 2026?
For working designers, the Squarehead Advanced Squarespace Course is the most complete, covering advanced CSS, design logic, accessibility, launch and pricing. For beginners, Squarespace Mastery by Applet Studio or Site School by Launch Out Loud are the better starting points.
Does Squarespace offer its own official course?
Squarespace publishes free help guides, video tutorials and webinars, but does not sell a structured course. The courses in this guide are made by independent designers, several of them Squarespace Experts or Circle Leaders.
How much does a Squarespace course cost?
When I checked in September 2026, single-topic workshops started at $49, platform and CSS courses were $129 to $157, Site School was $297, the Squarehead course was £497 and the business courses (Scale with Templates and The Web Designer's Playbook) were $797 to $1,497.
Do I need to know CSS to take these courses?
No for Squarespace Mastery, Site School, CSS Mastery, Custom Layouts and the Full Build workshop, which are all beginner friendly. The Advanced Header Design workshop and the Squarehead course assume some CSS experience.
Are Squarespace courses refundable?
Mostly not. Squarehead, Applet Studio, Schwartz-Edmisten and Launch Out Loud all state that digital course purchases are non-refundable. Scale with Templates is the exception, with a 14-day money-back guarantee.
Do these courses cover Squarespace 7.0?
No. Every course here is built for Squarespace 7.1 and, in most cases, Fluid Engine. On 7.0, the CSS fundamentals in CSS Mastery will transfer, but the layout and interface lessons will not.
